The AutoCAD user interface has evolved over time. The AutoCAD 2010 program introduced the ribbon-based user interface. The ribbon and other design changes were later incorporated into AutoCAD 2013.
AutoCAD has a command line interface and an ObjectARX graphical programming language.
Compared to architectural CAD programs such as Rhino and SketchUp, AutoCAD provides much more information about the objects on the drawing screen, and is more suitable for the graphic and mechanical design of products. AutoCAD allows the design of any product, a product with no predefined shape, or any 2D or 3D object with any dimension, including the option to add freeform objects, curves, and surfaces to the drawing. A drawing that appears on the screen can have any number of entities (objects). AutoCAD also allows for tracing and labeling, and feature-based dimensioning with any number of dimensions. The standard functions of a CAD program, including boolean operations, cut, extrusion, fillet, and surface, are supported.
AutoCAD supports the following “object types”:
The number of objects that can be created is limited by the memory and storage available in the computer that runs the program. The maximum number of objects that can be created in a drawing is dictated by the available memory on the computer running the program. For this reason, AutoCAD does not support the creation of geometric entities containing more than five or six objects. AutoCAD also does not support “nested objects” or multiple levels of object nesting.
AutoCAD is different from most CAD programs in that it does not display components (e.g., in a library) as individual objects. Instead, an object has a named component that is displayed with the object. For example, a window with two openings is typically shown as two windows, each with two openings.
AutoCAD provides three principal modes of operation: Create, Edit, and View.
Create mode is the primary mode, in which the user creates and manipulates objects.
Edit mode is used for modification of an existing object.
View mode is used to review an object after it has been created.
In AutoCAD, objects are designed by manipulating individual entities. Each entity has one or more attributes that control its behavior. Each entity has a tag or type. The attribute table in the Properties palette contains a column called Tag or Type, which indicates the type of

AutoCAD was originally written on the Apple II, and later ported to the Windows platform. It is based on the C++ programming language, and is structured around a model–view–controller (MVC) approach in which a model is a class that represents the data, a view is a class that represents the view of the data in the user interface, and a controller is a class that coordinates the activities between the model and view.
After its release in 1987, AutoCAD was one of the most popular programs for DOS-based computers.
Starting in 1998, with AutoCAD version 2000, AutoCAD introduced a graphical user interface (GUI), an approach that would later become more common. AutoCAD 2000 also provided a strong return type feature and a coordinate system change detection engine, which made it easier to keep track of objects’ spatial coordinates.
In 1999, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD MEP. The multi-platform extension, released in 2000, added many new features, including 2D and 3D mechanical and electrical engineering design, paper models, and the AutoCAD Project Wizard. The MEP release was a major milestone because it helped facilitate the widespread use of AutoCAD across a wide array of platforms.
The MEP release also marked the beginning of the move towards modernizing the user interface. AutoCAD’s now familiar ribbon-based GUI was added, along with a revamped screen layout that was easier to understand. MEP also introduced the Dynamic Interface Technology (DIT) system, which replaced the existing method for handling AutoCAD’s user interface using drop-down menus with an interface framework that allowed the implementation of object-oriented controls.
In 2000, AutoCAD introduced Interactive Viewports (IV) technology that lets users resize and move a selected drawing region as if it were a window, with a basic outline and control buttons. IV technology also allowed for multiple independent views, allowing users to have several overlapping drawing views simultaneously. IV technology was the foundation for today’s multi-window, multi-document interface. AutoCAD went on to add support for the newer windows based on windows vista. AutoCAD 2012 introduced dynamic resizing of shapes and views in graphical user interface (GUI) based on the size of the window frame.
In 2002, AutoCAD introduced new Windows-based graphic interface and the ability to operate on drawings across networks, and introduced support for dynamic link library (DLL) files.

Category:Graphics softwareSome people have difficulty sleeping due to physical or emotional conditions, or due to outside conditions such as noise, light, or body movements. In addition, the internal organs of the human body may generate “noise” that interferes with proper sleep, for example. People may also sleep with other noises such as air conditioning or fans, or even alarms from electronic devices. Still further, people may not realize that their internal or external noises prevent them from getting sufficient sleep.
In addition, while people generally may have good intentions for their sleep, often they may not be in the right position to get as much sleep as they want, or the person may simply not be physically able to sleep because of an injury or physical condition. For example, an injured person may not be able to find comfortable sleep positions and may sleep on his or her stomach with a pillow, with a pillow on top of him or her, with no pillow, or in a variety of other positions. A person with a pillow under his or her neck may have better control over how much or how little of his or her neck is in the pillow, which may allow the person to get better sleep. However, the person may also get more or less sleep depending on the size of the pillow. A person with arthritis or other physical conditions may not have the ability to change his or her pillow position to get better
What’s New In AutoCAD?
Numerous enhancements for AutoCAD Layout and Sheet Set Manager, including interactive sheet set properties. Select properties for a sheet set and an entire collection of drawings, and change settings on all drawings. You can do this in one place, and you can quickly configure settings for multiple layouts and drawing styles.
Raster and Vector Scaling:
Use the same scale in both AutoCAD and PowerBI. Scale drawings and sheetsets on both systems. (video: 1:10 min.)
Scaling enables easier access to your models, regardless of the origin of the drawings. Scaling lets you adjust a drawing to any scale you want, whether it’s the original CAD design, or a model for a personal scale. Or, you can scale down a larger drawing for easier viewing.
Map geometry with dimensions, automatically transform CAD models for efficient placement, and use selection or measurements to create a set of object handles for efficient creation and placement of multiple objects.
These improvements are available in AutoCAD 2023 as a free update for users of AutoCAD 2019. You can also get a complete free copy of AutoCAD from Autodesk.
