In March 1987, Autodesk released the AutoCAD LT (AutoCAD Level 1) version of AutoCAD. The LT version runs on low-powered personal computers running DOS or Windows, without a graphics display. LT quickly became AutoCAD’s core product line and was the backbone of the entire AutoCAD product line. In 1996, AutoCAD LT became AutoCAD and was integrated with all subsequent versions of AutoCAD.

The UCSF CHAD project began in March 1986 at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The University had acquired an IBM PC XT, and the CHAD project had been in planning for several years. In December 1986, the team settled on AutoCAD as the primary CAD software.

CHAD was a two-pronged research project, whose participants and methods were diverse. The first component was centered around the computer graphics system, and the second focused on the application of computer graphics and CAD to the construction of anatomical models. CHAD is one of the first major projects to use AutoCAD as the primary CAD application. The CHAD project was a collaboration between computer graphics researchers at UCSF and computer graphics hardware developers at the Computer Science Department of the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). As the first dedicated scientific CAD software developed on a PC platform, CHAD had the distinction of being both a computer graphics and computer software research project.

CHAD was originally designed to be a high-performance vector graphics system for use by UCSF researchers. CHAD was the first freely available CAD system to use hardware-based acceleration to render and manipulate vector graphics. In the late 1980s, the UCSF project shifted its focus from the computer graphics to the scientific application of CAD and computer graphics.

The UCSF CAD team at the time consisted of Ph.D. researchers with research experience and different specializations. These include a software developer, a mathematician, a network engineer, an applied mathematician, a user interface designer, and a graphics hardware engineer.

DWG files still contain native AutoCAD Drawing objects, such as Geometry, Blocks, Layers, Styles, Symbols, etc. However, the native Drawing data has been moved from the Drawing Objects in the DWG header to a.dwg.Objects file.

Clifford Emory Jacobs (born 1 December 1934) is an American painter.

Jacobs was born in South Bend, Indiana, but grew up in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania. He studied at the Art Students League of New York and received a BFA from Pennsylvania State University. He has taught at the Parsons School of Design, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Jacobs is married to Laurie Stropun and lives and works in Washington, D.C.

AutoCAD includes modeling software, which lets the user draw 2D or 3D solids and solids and surfaces.

Patching is a tool used to combine two or more feature. AutoCAD supports polylines and polygon patches, line and polyline patches, spline patching.

AutoCAD supports several ways to plot items. The default method is to plot on paper and then send to plotter. Another method is plot with a computer connected to a plotter. The user can draw the grid over the reference object and move it around, until it is the size and shape he desires. The user then places the object to be worked on, on the grid.

With the ability to plot vectors in one or two dimensions, the user can put a reference object on the paper, such as a string, and then draw a vector from the object to the paper. AutoCAD can then draw over the vector and on the paper, creating a 2D representation of the vector.

The user can also generate vectors by projecting a 3D object, such as a chair, to the 2D plane of the paper.

AutoCAD is one of the most advanced CAD tools in existence, and it has an extremely powerful feature set. The basic modeling tools include:
