Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

AutoCAD: A Short History
AutoCAD is the trademark name of a family of products which started as a desktop-based, plug-in, assembly line drafting and design application originally released in 1982. AutoCAD is a cross-platform CAD system available on the Macintosh (Mac OS), Windows (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), Linux (SuSE Linux, Fedora Linux, and Debian Linux), Unix/Solaris, and other platforms.
AutoCAD originally came in two parts: AutoCAD II (for the Macintosh and Windows platforms) and AutoCAD LT (for the Macintosh, Windows, and Unix platforms). In 2004, Autodesk separated AutoCAD LT from AutoCAD and discontinued the Macintosh version. In 2005, AutoCAD LT was replaced with AutoCAD. In 2006, AutoCAD 2009 was released with a new 2D drawing tool. In 2007, AutoCAD 2010 was released with a 3D drawing tool. In 2011, AutoCAD 2012 was released with a brand new 2D drawing tool, along with new features, such as a drafting ruler. In 2015, AutoCAD 2015 was released with a brand new 3D drawing tool.
Autodesk acquired a majority interest in Corel Corporation in April 2009. The merger resulted in a new entity called Corel AutoCAD, and Autodesk continues to provide software development and support of AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, and CorelDRAW, as well as continuing to develop new applications under its AutoCAD brand.

XREF files (Cross-Reference Files) are also the basis for the imported and exported drawings. In AutoCAD 2010 a new import/export feature allows importing/exporting drawings in.dwg format via a 3rd party application. The 2D DWG format is not, however, directly supported in 3D space. These DXF files can be used to import and export for 3D drawings. This means that the 3D DWG format can be imported into the 3D space using 3D DWG files. The reverse is not possible. However, 2D DWG files can be imported and exported from AutoCAD for 3D drawings.
AutoCAD, in the form of its base product, can also be used to create web-based and mobile apps and run them on iOS, Android, Windows and macOS. The apps created with AutoCAD can be viewed on these mobile platforms and offer editing and rendering functionality.
An autoCAD geometric file is made up of a number of objects, including lines, arcs, circles, surfaces, text, blocks and several others, such as panels, insets and views. Every object has a unique ID which can be used to define attributes (for example, the line type), edit properties (for example, the line color), and modify the geometry (for example, delete the line). An object can contain a number of points (if the object is a line) or segments (if the object is an arc). Every object can also have a specific style, which can be changed by the user in the object’s properties. Each object can also be moved, duplicated and deleted.
The Geometry API provides a way to manage geometry (such as editing geometry) using low-level commands that are executed at specific intervals, such as Line.Nested and Arc.Nested. The basic commands in the Geometry API are Line, Arc, Circle, Plane, Box, Face and Text. These low-level commands allow for very fine-grain manipulation of geometry objects. Higher-level commands are also available, such as Rectangle, Ellipse and Ring. A number of additional commands are also available, including Surface, Edge, Vertex and Group.
AutoCAD has the ability to work with vector graphics. The Vector API was formerly known as the GPC (Geometry Processing Component).

What’s New In?
Import CAD Files:
Automatically import CAD files and allow your drawing to reference the imported design. Drawings now import with more features such as alignment and filtering of imported geometry. (video: 2:08 min.)
User Defined Formats:
Use the new user defined form to format names, numbers, date, and times in your drawings. Write custom code that automatically formats numbers, dates, and times in tables, graphs, and equations. (video: 2:22 min.)
AutoCAD automatically adds plots to your drawings for 2D and 3D surfaces. Try it yourself. AutoCAD automatically adds plots to your drawings for 2D and 3D surfaces. Try it yourself. (video: 2:24 min.)

Other notable features in AutoCAD 2023
By now you know the benefits of running AutoCAD on multiple displays. With Multiscreen you can run AutoCAD on as many displays as you need, and set each screen’s own viewing environment. This can be as simple as assigning one screen to display a different size and resolution, or as complex as assigning screens to different views, or display styles, or layouts. (video: 2:31 min.)
More Visual Styles:
Visual styles in AutoCAD continue to become more sophisticated, adding not only to AutoCAD’s overall fidelity, but also to the ability to implement a design quickly. In the 2.20 release, the first major addition to the visual style family, Named Visual Styles, provide a way to apply settings to individual objects within a style. (video: 2:32 min.)
User-Defined Color Management:
Take the guesswork out of color management by setting color source management on a per-layer or per-object basis. (video: 2:25 min.)
The Zoomed View:
The new Zoomed View lets you hide all but a portion of your drawing, and then manually zoom in or out to a desired magnification level. When you have zoomed in, you can shift the view
